SUMMARY:SAAM Day of Action & Teal Day
DESCRIPTION:Nationally recognized in the United States and observed annually as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM)\, SAAM Day of Action provides a day to focus awareness on sexual violence prevention. \nAs our communities face unprecedented circumstances\, our agency and community partners are still working hard to support survivors. For the second year in a row\, we are asking community members\, businesses and organizations to come together in support of survivors on Sexual Assault Awareness Month Day of Action. We are uniting to ensure survivors know they are supported by their communities and so people are aware of resources available. We encourage individuals to wear teal and organizations to participate in an awareness post on social media platforms (details below). \n  \nFOR ORGANIZATIONS: \nThis multi-county post is intended to unite organizations while raising awareness and taking a stand against sexual assault. If you are interested in participating\, simply post on your social media platforms at 11 am on Tuesday\, April 7\, 2020. We will be using Facebook\, Twitter\, and Instagram. Below is an image provided by the National Sexual Violence Resource Center and a caption to be used. If your organization has information they’d like to add to the content\, please feel free to do so. \n \nWe support survivors! Today is #SAAMDayOfAction during Sexual Assault Awareness Month and we are joining community members throughout Isabella\, Clare and Gratiot Counties in supporting survivors. Consent is essential in putting an end to sexual assault and we are proud to take part in this community-wide movement. \nFor information on local\, statewide and national sexual assault resources\, visit https://www.riseadvocacy.org/sexual-assault-response-resources/. \n#SAAM #IAsk #consent \n  \nFeel free to reach out the the Community Engagement Specialist with any questions at kmason@riseadvocacy.org.

SUMMARY:Denim Day 2020
DESCRIPTION:On April 24\, 2019\, millions of people across the world will wear jeans with a purpose\, support survivors\, and educate themselves and others about all forms of sexual violence. \nThe campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans\, thereby implying consent. The following day\, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Peace Over Violence developed the Denim Day campaign in response to this case and the activism surrounding it. Since then\, what started as a local campaign to bring awareness to victim blaming and destructive myths that surround sexual violence has grown into a movement. As the longest running sexual violence prevention and education campaign in history\, Denim Day asks community members\, elected officials\, businesses and students to make a social statement with their fashion statement by wearing jeans on this day as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence. \nYou can participate in Denim Day from anywhere! To show us your support during the last week of Sexual Assault Awareness Month\, just post your selfie wearing denim on Facebook\, Twitter\, or Instagram and tag RISE. \nHashtags to use: #SAAM #denimday #RISEupagainstSA \nFind more info on the history of Denim Day here.
